The Verkada cloud-based product suite starts with safety and extends to operations.

Our founders are builders. All of them are trained engineers. They love creating new products to solve big problems. Over a decade ago, two of our founders experienced the challenges with the “best” enterprise video security products available at that time. Existing hardware-based systems cost a lot of money and were insecure and clunky. The market lagged behind the progress seen in the consumer space, where someone could buy high-end cameras with cloud-based software to protect their home.
Over the next few years, they started from first principles to see if they could find a better solution to help organizations more effectively protect their people and property using a software-first approach. They spent time with industry leaders and prospective customers to fully understand their challenges and concerns. The more conversations they had, the more they grasped the stress and anxiety faced by the people entrusted with keeping organizations safe. They envisioned new products they could build to ensure these individuals always had the most critical information at their fingertips.
As the challenge became clear, so did their goal: to positively impact the world by making organizations of any size safer using truly innovative technology. In the summer of 2016, Verkada was born.

Filip Kaliszan is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Verkada, a leader in AI-powered physical security technology. Verkada is transforming how organizations protect their people and places with an integrated, AI-powered platform that unifies video security, access control, air quality sensors, alarms, intercoms, and workplace tools through a single platform, Verkada Command. Today, more than 2 million Verkada devices are online across 171 countries, actively turning data into actionable intelligence that makes security and operations faster, smarter, and more efficient.
A builder at heart, Filip co-founded his first startup, CourseRank, as a sophomore at Stanford and sold it to Chegg.com less than four years after building it. After the acquisition, Filip spent four years as a Director of Product Management at Chegg.
Filip holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in computer science from Stanford University.

Hans Robertson is executive chairman and co-founder of Verkada, a leader in cloud-based physical security solutions. Founded in 2016 with just four employees, Hans has helped scale Verkada to more than 2,200 employees, 31,000 enterprise customers, and a valuation of $5.8 billion. Today, Hans leads Verkada’s daily operations in partnership with Verkada’s CEO, Filip Kaliszan.
Prior to Verkada, Hans co-founded another Silicon Valley Unicorn, Meraki, where he served as chief operating officer for almost a decade. During this time, he helped design the first cloud-managed enterprise networking products – including Wi-Fi, firewall, and switching systems – and led the company to a $1.2 billion acquisition with Cisco in 2012.
Prior to founding Meraki he was a product manager at EMC and was an early employee at VMware. Hans began his career as a business analyst at McKinsey & Co.
Hans also serves as a Board member at Pilot and Tractian. Hans holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

James Ren is a co-founder and software architect at Verkada. Before Verkada, James launched CourseRank with Verkada co-founders Filip Kaliszan and Benjamin Bercovitz while he was a student at Stanford. James has also worked as a software engineer at Google and then at Chegg after CourseRank was acquired.
James holds a bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from Stanford University and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School.
Outside of work, James enjoys cooking and photographing his travels.

Benjamin Bercovitz is a co-founder of Verkada. Prior to founding Verkada, Benjamin founded CourseRank alongside Filip Kaliszan and James Ren. Benjamin served as the chief technology officer for CourseRank, leading engineering efforts before the company was acquired by Chegg. At Chegg he served as a principal engineer, transforming their backend systems during a period of high growth and expansion leading up to their eventual IPO.
Benjamin earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in computer science from Stanford University.
Outside of work, Benjamin enjoys nature and travel.
